Group Hike of Knittel Conservation Area in Blandford August 21st 10:00am
GPS Location: 42.17080, -72.92915 Parking Hike Rating: Moderate 3.5 mile loop
The Knittel Conservation Area in Blandford is a 254-acre passive recreation land comprised of fields, forest and Falls Brook above Cobble Mountain Reservoir. There are trails on both sides of Herrick Road, we will hike on the lesser-known side along Falls Brook, over several bridges and passing a small pond and great rock formations and behind the old Herrick family farm including a bottle dump. We will come out at the edge of the watershed land where old Herrick Road once continued to Granville. Option to hike the loop around the big pond (1.4 miles) The conservation area helps protect the water supply of 250,000 people in the Pioneer Valley.
Meet at the Trailhead Kiosk on 26 Herrick Road in the parking lot, off Route 23. Plan for three hours hike time. Be prepared for water, rocks and mud on the trail.
