Group Hike to the Dexter Lyman Homestead in Huntington
Saturday April 24th at 10:00 am
GPS Location:  42.291283  -72.859203 Parking      Hike Rating: Moderate     2.5 miles in and back

Join us at Knightville Reservior to hike back in time to when Knightville Village flourished along the East Branch of the Westfield River, at least 100 years before the dam and floodplain was built. The Town of Huntington is rich with early settler history, Cullen Road was a main thoroughfare for villagers to travel from old Norwich across the bridge to Huntington Center.  We will visit the Dexter Lyman homestead site which is exceptionally preserved complete with a silo, watering trough, well and much more.  This farmstead burned to the ground in 1927.  We will traverse through the wooded upper flood plain on the Claude M. Hill Trail, and then climb up higher on an old road.  Stone walls that were built for grazing animals are everywhere.

Park and meet behind the Ranger Station at the top of the hill at the Knightville Dam main entrance (Route 112).  The trail starts here. Trail is not blazed.   Plan for three hours hike time. We will hike in to the Farmstead to explore and loop back . Be prepared for water, rocks and mud on the trail and inclines(walking uphill).  Maps and bottle water will be provided.  Please be aware that there are no facilities at the trail. More details are on Facebook and the website. Friendly dogs are welcome!
