Group Hike of Goldmine Falls in Chester June 26th 10:00am
GPS Location: 42.24782, -72.92470 Parking Hike Rating: Moderate/Difficult 4 miles in and back This hike is ranked A+ for waterfalls. Stone steps on the side of the road take you into the woods in less than 3 minutes. The initial hike up the falls is very steep with a sharp drop off to the water. Even though the waterfall is just off the state highway, you feel a world away from it! Impressive massive, moss covered boulders dominate the gorge. As you climb higher the trail goes to a gradual climb along a stone wall, there are many viewing spots along the way. Bring your good camera. We will hike to the washed-out bridge, hikers have the option to cross Goldmine Brook and continue on the opposite side of the brook to the high end of the trail where it meets up with Mica Mine Rd. and the Mine itself. This hike is beautiful from start to finish. Uphill all the way in. NOTE: there are downed trees to go over and under on the trail, there are slippery rocks on the upper falls trail. This hike is not flat in any way.
Park and meet at the parking area pull off on Route 20 (right side heading West) just after the DCR Headquarters sign, nose in. The trail starts across the road at the end of the gaurdrail. Road crossing is necessary, bring a leash for your dog. Plan for three hours hike time. Be prepared for water, rocks, downed trees and mud on the trail and steep inclines.
